There are loads of ways to collect stamps. Most people start by collecting just about everything that comes into their hands. They might then specialise in particular countries;. Or they might collect thematically - ie stamps of ships or cars. Some thematic collectors enjoy the challenge of accumulating stamps featuring bizarre subject matter - ghosts, water ski-ing, carpentry.

Many collectors are interested in postal history - getting envelops which tell a story. Some people collect 'crash mail' - which has been damaged in shipwrecks or aircrashes. Others collect mail which illustrates a particular period of history - ie censored mail sent in WW2. And many people just enjoy the challenge of collecting first day covers.
